What is a computer tune up?
A computer tune up is what is needed for a computer that is running slower than it once did. When a computer tune up is performed, the computer is optimized by cleaning up the file system and operating system. This is recommended once per year. A computer tune-up also includes a health check on your hardware. Sometimes, a failing piece of hardware can be the reason why your computer is slowing down.
How did I get this problem?
A computer can get slow over time for various reasons. One reason is from normal usage. As we use our computers, we install and uninstall programs, save and delete files and emails, and surf the internet. All these activities add information. As more information is added, your computer starts to slow down because of having to search through more files. Sometimes we also install programs that will run and take up valuable resources. Many of these programs we don’t even use anymore!
Another reason is from hardware that is starting to fail. If these worn out or defective parts are caught early enough, data loss and other frustrating problems can be prevented.
If your computer receives a clean bill of health, hardware upgrades are highly recommended in combination with a computer tune-up. Hardware upgrades and a tune-up almost always cost less than purchasing a new computer and generally add 2-3 years of usability to your current computer.
What could happen if I don’t do anything?
Consequences of not getting a computer tune-up could cause the following problems:
- Slow computer performance
